Despite the repeated attempts at reassurance of safety by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the nation’s food supply is at risk, whether from melamine contamination, salmonella or E.coli. Stephan: This is the completely to be expected result of the Bush Administration selling the regulatory agencies that are supposed to oversee the safety of our food to the agro-industries they are supposed to regulate. For the first time in my memory one can no longer take for granted the safety of simple food products, like spinach or ground beef. It is just another area of civil life in America that has been degraded over the past seven years. We are like the frog in the saucepan of water. Is that what you want?
