Stephan: This is the latest poll on the Willful Ignorance trend, and why very little is going to be done at the Federal level about climate change. The problem is not just corporate opposition, it is the ignorance and angry hatred of a large segment of the American population. And this is not evenly distributed through the population. Southern Republicans are the main proponents of this worldview.
This is why I keep saying we must plan for what is going to happen, and work at the local and bio-regional level, because nothing is going to stop climate change from occurring and the national level, influenced by these angry ignorant people, will be unresponsive.
A new poll shows that 50 percent of self-identified Tea Party members don’t believe in global warming, and less than one-fifth believe that human activities are causing the planet to heat up.
The Public Religion Research Institute poll is the latest to show deep political divides on global warming, an issue that’s also animating campaign trail clashes between GOP White House hopefuls Rick Perry, governor of Texas, and Jon Huntsman, former governor of Utah.
