CDC Researchers Say Mothers Should Stop Breastfeeding to Boost ‘Efficacy’ of Vaccines

Stephan:  You can see the toxic hand of the Illness Profit system at work here. I find this horrifying, and it will stop a large part of the current generation of women from nursing. There are at least several dozen studies showing the importance of breastfeeding, and one should remember the report I did recently about the need for 40 weeks of nurturing for the mother-child bond to be properly established.

Remember when it was considered crazy talk to suggest that mainstream medicine viewed humanity as being born lacking in pharmaceutical drugs and vaccines, as if these synthetic inputs are necessary miracle nutrients for proper human development? Well, researchers from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently showed that they adhere to this lunatic philosophy, having released a study that recommends women withhold breastfeeding their children in order to boost the ‘effectiveness’ of the rotavirus vaccine.

Ten researchers from the CDC’s National Centers for Immunization and Respiratory Disease (NCIRD) released the ridiculous paper, entitled Inhibitory effect of breast milk on infectivity of live oral rotavirus vaccines, which claims the immune-boosting effects of breastmilk are a detriment to the efficacy of vaccines. The paper goes on to say that, rather than remove vaccines so that breastmilk can do its job, women should instead remove the breastmilk to allow vaccines to do their job.

The CDC researchers began their investigation by searching for answers as to why children from underdeveloped countries typically do not respond as well to the live oral rotavirus vaccine as children in developed countries typically do. They came to the conclusion that breastmilk, which is packed with immune-building […]

The Uphill Battle Against Citizens United: Tricky Legal Terrain and No Easy Fixes

Stephan:  This is a good exegetic essay on what it will take to change Citizens United. It will not be easy, and by the time it happens, it may be too late to return to the democracy we have known all our lives. This is why the selection of Supreme Court justices is so important. One decision and the world changes.

The movement to overturn the Supreme Court’s controversial Citizens United ruling and confront the doctrine of corporate personhood stands at a perilous crossroads.

Across the country, two distinct strategies are converging on Congress. More than a million people have signed online petitions. State legislators, city and township governments, Democratic Party groups and unions have sponsored and passed measures in 23 states demanding that Congress pass a constitutional amendment to reassert and elevate the political speech of ordinary citizens and roll back the growing political speech and legal privileges of corporations.

The two approaches can be seen in the protest signs and sound bites proclaiming, ‘Money is Not Speech

Unlimited Contributions Give ‘Super PACs’ Power to Change Presidential Race

Stephan:  It is becoming increasingly clear that Citizens United has changed the nature of American democracy.

With the South Carolina primary less than a week away, residents of the state are being bombarded with a barrage of political advertisements funded by Super PACs.

‘It’s coming in fast and furious,

MakerBot Unveils Its New 3D Printer, the Replicator

Stephan:  This report follows on one I published just a few months ago, the beginning of what is going to be an enormously important trend. It suggests that at least for certain categories of objects it will be possible to order them, and manufacture them either at a venue near by or, in some circumstances in one's home.

The folks at MakerBot Industries have not exactly been resting on their laurels since causing a stir at CES last year with the Thing-o-Matic 3D printer. Even though the original small object creation device would still see the jaws of most people dropping in wonder, the company has now unveiled a new model at CES 2012 called the Replicator that is not only capable of fabricating much bigger objects than its predecessor, but can also do so in two colors at the same time.

Rather than having some fabrication company on the other side of the world mass-produce millions of plastic shower curtain hooks, door knobs, or even chess pieces and then ship them to your local store for you to buy, desktop-friendly 3D printers like MakerBot’s Thing-o-Matic allow users to create every day objects in the home, only when they are needed. Revolutionary!

Now, I’m no stranger to side-stepping the world of big commerce to get what I need. There was a time in my not-so-distant past when I used to spend my spare time pouring resin into floppy molds, wait a few hours for all the chess pieces to set and then smooth, polish or paint the finished objects until […]

Editor’s Note – Citizens’ United

Stephan:  In today's edition I have focused particularly on Citizens' United. Watching zombie candidates continue to run because they are backed by Super PACs, has made it clear to me that our entire electoral process has been fundamentally changed before our eyes with consequences we still do not fully understand. Democracy is set up as a voting system by citizens. Government by the people for the people. The Super PACs that Citizens' United has brought into being constitute something quite different: the crony profit system commandeering politics. It is in essence legalized bribery. Today's edition has a series of assessments about this new political order.
