BRYCE COVERT, - Think Progress
Stephan: I consider this very significant, and good news. And I applaud Governor Christie, who is emerging as a true counter weight to the madness of the tea baggers. This is going to have a national effect for both him, and the country. This trend is on the move. If it doesn't pass Federally, and is left to the states, in my view it will further define the difference between Red value and Blue value states -- which is the defining trend going on in the country.
On Thursday, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) signed a bill into law that would ban salary secrecy for employees who are trying to uncover wage discrimination. It will make it illegal for an employer to retaliate if a worker discloses job information such as title, compensation, or other components if it was made to investigate whether someone is being paid unfairly.
New Jersey’s law mirrors the Paycheck Fairness Act, which has been introduced in Congress and would, among other things, ban retaliation against those who share salary information. Nearly half of all workers are either forbidden or strongly discouraged from sharing that information with each other, making it extremely difficult for women and other groups to root out discrimination.
On average, women still earn just 77 cents for every dollar a man earns, a gap that can’t be explained by how much education a woman earns, what job she takes, the personal choices she makes, or how high she rises in a company.
And even though the first bill President Obama signed into law dealt with the gender wage gap, there’s still much progress to be made. The gap has actually widened recently. A third of women report experiencing discrimination at work, […]

Stephan: This is an effect that it is well worth factoring into your lifestyle.
Eating more whole fresh fruit, especially blueberries, grapes, apples and pears, is linked to a lower risk of type 2 diabetes, but drinking more fruit juice has the opposite effect, says a study.
British, US and Singaporean researchers pored over data from three big health investigations that took place in the United States, spanning a quarter of a century in all.
More than 187,000 nurses and other professional caregivers were enrolled.
Their health was monitored over the following years, and they regularly answered questionnaires on their eating habits, weight, smoking, physical activity and other pointers to lifestyle.
Around 6.5 percent of the volunteers developed diabetes during the studies.
People who ate at least two servings each week of certain whole fruits, especially blueberries, grapes and apples, reduced their risk of type 2 diabetes by as much as 23 percent compared to those who ate less than one serving per month.
‘Our findings provide novel evidence suggesting certain fruits may be especially beneficial for lower diabetes risk,

Stephan: I have just returned from a week on Cortes Island, a remote island in Northern Canadian waters. It takes several hours on three ferry rides to get there each, like the island it takes you to, smaller than the one preceding it. There are wolves in the dense green woods, and eagles in the air. Whenever I was indoors, I was in spaces powered by photovoltaic solar, and it made me very conscious of solar, the uses to which electricity can be put, how quickly this trend is evolving, and what good news that is. Here is a milestone worth noting.
It’s another good news day here at Gas 2, as the total number of electric cars in the US of A has passed the number of gas stations for the first time since- Um
