Stephan: To me one of the most remarkable things about the ACA is that a majority of Americans are essentially against universal healthcare. Only about 37 per cent of the population approves of Obamacare, although if one asks whether people approve of individual portions of the act they do so overwhelmingly (about 73 per cent). Now, the question is: Why are Americans different than all other citizens of all other developed democratic nations? If you ask a Swede or a Brit, or a French person if they support universal healthcare so that the cost of medicine is no longer a crippling consideration in a family budget they would answer... well, yeah...duhhh. So why don't we agree?

The period of Open Enrollment, the annual window in which eligible Americans can sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), has got off to a fairly smooth start. Even so it is clear that the act, also known as Obamacare, has another difficult year ahead. The attempt to introduce a “fairer”, more affordable healthcare system has been notably controversial from the start and this looks set to continue.
Republicans are in control of both houses of Congress following the mid-term elections and have renewed their commitment to repeal Obamacare. The Supreme Court is also to consider another challenge to the law under King v Burwell. The never-popular act’s approval ratings, according to a recent Gallup poll have hit a new low of 37%.
These troubles persist even though the number […]
More anti-American lies promulgated by the GOP, reinforced by the tea baggers and against the American people. IMHO, they are truly trying to destroy the USA.
ve spent the last 48 hours trying to sign my wife up for a better Medicare policy for the coming year because the one she was on changed their policy and now require a $320 DEDUCTABLE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, which is the worst time of the year to do that, because we are not prepared for it. What do they expect us to deduct it from? SHould we stop eating? The drug companies have just this past month have DOUBLED the co-payments for some of her much needed heart and diabetic medications, also. We are really in a bind because they did not out a single-payer option in the bill. We cannot survive with that much money coming at the worst time of the year when heating prices are high and taxes will be coming due, also. Yet the rich are still getting tax breaks. What an immoral government we live under.
