Stephan: I have been following the Theocratic Right disinformation machine's take on marriage equality for months now. One always expects nonsense in that parallel universe, but sometimes it is just jaw droppingly crazy. And yet millions of Americans think this way, which is why I run these pieces. It is important to open the door to that world in order to understand what is making America so self-destructive.
In addition to their aggrieved sense of persecution-- yes, the Theocratic Right hugs to its bosom a sense that Christianity is under constant and unremitting attack -- there is a strong death wish. It arises, I think, from the obsession this world has with "end times." This is an example of what I mean. When you think this way you make very different choices than a person who has a socially progressive compassionate, and life-affirming worldview.

With the Supreme Court expected to rule on the legality of same-sex marriage in June, an End Times broadcaster served a chilling warning that legalization of gay marriage may prompt God to send a “fireball from space” in retaliation.
According to Right Wing Watch, Rick Wiles had very bad news for Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel on his “Trunews” program yesterday, saying “If the Supreme Court dares to defy Almighty God one more time, I’m telling you it will be the last time.”
“I believe I am speaking under the unction of the Holy Spirit,” Wiles explained in a perfectly reasonable tone. “I’m telling you there will be swift, sudden and devastating consequences for the United States of America. America will be brought to its knees, there will be pain and suffering at a level we’ve never seen in this country.”
“The word that I hear in my spirit is ‘fire.’ I do not know if it refers to riots or looting or war on American soil or a […]

Stephan: Here is what wellness based environmental priorities might look like. We must close down the carbon energy businesses, and its planet destroying spawn, industrial chemical agriculture and husbandry. Wellness oriented social policies are always cheaper, more efficient, more compassionate, and more life-affirming.

Science China Press reports (via the American Association for the Advancement of Science):
Approximately 35% of global greenhouse gases (GHGs) come from agriculture. Some argues that human can reverse global worming by sequestering several hundred billion tons of excess CO2 through regenerative, organic farming, ranching and land use. Increasing the soil’s organic content will not only fix carbon and reduce emissions, it will also improve the soil’s ability to retain water and nutrients and resist pests and droughts.
To mitigate GHG emissions and retain soil fertility, organic agriculture might be a wise choice for decreasing the intensive use of synthetic fertilizers, protecting environments, and further improving crop yields. Recent research showed that replacing chemical fertilizer with organic manure significantly decreased the emission of GHGs. Organic farming can reverse the agriculture ecosystem from a carbon source to a carbon sink. [i.e. organic farming ties up and binds or “sequesters” carbon, instead of emitting any carbon. In other words, organic farming […]

Stephan: Energy storage, as I have noted repeatedly, is the leverage point that will materially affect the transition out of the carbon era, in the process changing the energy model from a centralized monopoly mass grid, to a dispersed decentralized model.
I think Elon Musk is one of the most impressive business leaders in the world. He sees how to create wealth by making wellness a priority, and he incorporates this into his business model. And it is going to make him a world historical figure.
Independent of Musk, this battery story is very good news, and should be seen as a significant step in the beginning of a major trend.

US electric carmaker Tesla Motors has unveiled batteries that can power homes and businesses as it attempts to expand beyond its vehicle business.
Chief executive Elon Musk announced the firm would build batteries that store solar energy and serve as a back-up system for consumers during blackouts.
The device would allow consumers to get off a power grid or bring energy to remote areas that are not on a grid.
Tesla plans to start shipping the units to installers in the US by this summer.
In a highly anticipated event near Los Angeles, Mr Musk said the move could help change the “entire energy infrastructure of the world”.
“Tesla Energy is a critical step in this mission to enable zero emission power generation,” the company said in a statement.
The rechargeable lithium-ion battery unit would be built using the same batteries Tesla produces for its electric vehicles, analysts said.
The system is called Powerwall, and Tesla will sell the 7kWh unit for $3,000 (£1,954), while the 10kWh unit will retail for […]

Stephan: Here is the latest on what I see as one of the most naked corruption schemes in American history.
Republican Representative Rob Bishop of Utah
A group of Republican congressmen this week took an aggressive step in a campaign to seize and sell off America’s national forests and other public lands.
In launching what they are calling the “Federal Land Action Group,” Rep. Chris Stewart (R-UT) and Rep. Rob Bishop (R-UT) plan to develop a legislative framework for giving states control of America’s public lands. Calling the federal government a “lousy landlord for western states,” Rep. Stewart said “we simply think the states can do it better.”
Bishop, who is also chair of the House Natural Resources Committee, said that “this group will explore legal and historical background in order to determine the best congressional action needed to return these lands back to the rightful owners.”
This latest effort to transfer or dispose of national forests and public lands was immediately blasted by Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), the ranking member on the House Natural Resources Committee, as being unwise, unpopular, and illegal.
“Building on the ideas of extremists like Cliven […]

Stephan: This is what climate change looks like, and it is going to affect our lives in myriad ways great and small. The steady relative constancy of Earth's meta-systems is being severely disrupted, and the world will never be the same again. In this case it should offer California a reprieve, although a compromised one, as the report describes, which is at least one bit of good news.
Three tropical cyclones churned the waters around Australia on March 11, 2015, including Pam, which reached category 5 and devastated the south Pacific islands of Vanuatu.

In early March, the strongest wave of tropical convection ever measured (known as the Madden Julian Oscillation) by modern meteorology moved into the western Pacific from Indonesian waters bringing an outbreak of 3 tropical cyclones, including deadly category 5 Pam which ravaged the south Pacific islands of Vanuatu. This extreme outburst of tropical storms and organized thunderstorms pulled strong westerly winds across the equator, unleashing a huge surge of warm water below the ocean surface. Normally, trade winds blow warm water across the Pacific from the Americas to Australia and Indonesia, pushing up sea level in the west Pacific. When the trade winds suddenly reversed to strong westerlies, it was as if a dam burst, but […]
