Wake up, sheeple! Chemtrails, depending on who you ask, are evidence of government-sponsored mind control experiments, biological warfare, geoengineering, or mass population control.
Or, for those of us who don’t subscribe to globalskywatch.com, those white streaks from planes are just water vapor condensed at high altitude.
According to the first peer-reviewed study to address chemtrails, published in Environmental Research Letters, 76 out of 77 of the world’s top atmospheric chemists say there’s no evidence for chemtrails.
It turns out, no actual scientist (even the lone dissenter) agreed that “the government, the military, airlines and others are colluding in a widespread, nefarious program to poison the planet from the skies,” according to the study.
Chemtrails just ain’t a thing.
Despite absolutely no evidence supporting the conspiracies, a 2011 international survey found that nearly 17 percent of respondents believe or partly believe in chemtrails.
So why do so many of us believe?
“The chemtrails conspiracy theory maps pretty closely to the origin and growth of the internet,” said study co-author Steven Davis.
And, hey, is it really that much of a stretch that so many people think the feds are administering anthrax vaccines […]
What’s shocking here is that this article contains no substance whatever except one appeal to authority (X number of experts say it isn’t real) and one dismissive comment comparing this to internet conspiracy theories.
It doesn’t address, nor try to address, the literally hundreds of photos of intersecting trails posted on Facebook alone — trails crossing, making intricate patterns.
This is not science, it is not journalism. It is elitist snobbery.
Actually the story relates to a just released study, which it cites and for which it provides a URL: http://www.ess.uci.edu/~sjdavis/SLAP/
Fake studies abound in the world of pseudo-science.
We believe because our eyes tell us something is coming out of planes that are not flying on normal flight paths. We see these plumes criss-crossing our skies and we see them slowly spreading out rather than merely disappearing as water vapor trails would. We see the gray dust settling on our cars and the same dust showing up in the fine filters on our vacuum cleaners. Since I live near the flight path of San Francisco International I see planes go over every day that are not producing those emissions. I’ve seen them in Europe and I’ve seen them in movies. I don’t know what the purpose is, but they are there.
Stephan,
I have stumbled across the secret to STOP seeing chemtrails. I have not seen one for 5 years – not since the day I left the US and landed in San Jose, Costa Rica (and there is a large international airport in San Jose).
For the 15 years prior to moving here I lived in DC, then rural Arkansas, then Austin, TX. Whether near a large airport or not, I saw chemtrails every day then, making their signature criss-cross lines and spreading out to create an overcast sky (which I NEVER saw regular contrails do).
I have given up the frustration and worry of speculating on the phenomena, and with being treated like a loon for believing my “lying eyes.”
Here in Costa Rica I take comfort in knowing that I can again enjoy looking up to see a sky like the one I remember from an earlier part of my life – beautiful clear blues and/or clouds that conform to the recognizable patterns and shapes I learned about in science class.
Hope you have the luxury of a view like that on your island. Though willful ignorance is not something I strive for, I find dollop of it here and there can be soothing (as long as it doesn’t get stressful to maintain.)
For what it’s worth,
Brenda in CR
