Who’s the villain here? Naturally our rage focuses on Donald Trump, a pantomime baddie drawn, as he would put it, from central casting. But behind him stand many others, and it’s about time they shared in the opprobrium.
Start with the unfolding scandal over Trumpworld’s links with Vladimir Putin’s Russia, and the increasingly close parallel with the Watergate affair that toppled Richard Nixon. Both episodes, then and now, began with an election-year break-in at Democratic party headquarters. In 1972, that involved burglars with torches. In 2016, it was hackers and passwords. But in each case, real and virtual, the apparent objective was the same: the acquisition of damaging political intelligence. In 1972, the culprits were taking their orders from the American president. In 2016, at least according to 17 US intelligence agencies, the orders came from the president of Russia.
Watergate spawned the now-cliched maxim that “it’s never the crime, it’s always the cover-up”. In the current case, it’s correct that had Trump’s associates told the truth immediately about their […]
When this author talks about 17 agencies saying Russia did it, he’s repeating a lie that Hillary told during the debate.
As the FBI said, there is no evidence that would stand up in court, so this article is nothing but propaganda.
A lot of people spent the 8 years of the Obama regime gushing about how wonderful it was that we had elected a Black President.
They didn’t notice that the policies of Obama made his administration look like an extension of the Bush years.
Had Hillary been elected, those same people would have spent the next 4 or 8 years gushing about how wonderful that we elected the first woman President.
They would not notice that the policies did not change because a supposed progressive took office.
sk, what are you smoking? Seriously, you keep repeating these same lines, what? a dozen times now in comments, no matter how many times it is shot down. And this is all you can self-parrot from such an extensive, far-reaching, and great article that goes so far beyond these petty talking points? It’s ‘YUGE’ I tells ya, ‘YUGE’!
The only thing the FBI has publicly stated that differs slightly from earlier reports is that the Russians did not have a “single purpose” by intervening during the presidential campaign. The FBI’s job is not foreign intelligence, so their focus and conclusions is decidedly different, as they should be. However, ‘In addition to the goal of helping elect Trump, Putin aimed to undermine confidence in the U.S. electoral system’, stated intelligence officials to lawmakers.
Anyway, I find it ironic that now suddenly James Comey’s integrity and non-partisanship is unquestioned and above board after the rants you had concerning him and Hillary.
Now we have ABSOLUTE ties and proof of Trump, and his staff, and his family, communicating with Russian leaders and oligarchy concerning the campaign, and ever more complex webs of money and influence going back years. Facts that Trump continues to lie about: Flynn, Sessions, Tillerson, Ross, Manafort, Page, Stone, Trump Jr., Kushner, Millian, Rybolovlev, and Sater. And that is just the people discovered SO far. If you don’t know the details of all those people, you are not keeping up with this constantly expanding scandal.
To deny collusion in the face of so much growing connections is astounding. Replace Trump’s name with Clinton’s when reading these stories and tell me you would be reacting in such a shoulder-shrug way.
Flynn outright lied to the FBI (a felony, and violation of the Logan Act), where is the outrage, and congressional panels, and charges, and public statements by Comey? Maybe I missed that.
And Obama an extension of Bush? Oh my….
