Stephan:   Russia is a country run by thugs, rich to be sure, but thugs nonetheless -- the euphemism we like to use is oligarchs. The fact is Russia is an economic disaster because thugs only organize things to enrich themselves. Very few Americans realize that although Russia is an enormous land mass the Russian economy is smaller than that of California, Texas, or New York. Not combined, each. Why Russia is in this state, in my opinion, is the predictable result arising from the American foreign policy establishment's failure -- with the exception of George Soros and Don Kendall, chairman of the board of Pepsico -- to see the opportunity laid at their feet by the collapse of the Soviet Union. They just couldn't get past their conditioning about the Soviet Union and, thus, thugs took over. It is the nature of thugs to be bullies, and to invest in things that make them threatening; it is their hallmark. On the geopolitical level that means military power, particularly nuclear warheads. Russia, true to thuggery form, has taken its limited resources and poured much of it into new weaponry, scary because the United States has no defense against them. We have poured tens of billions of dollars into missile defense systems, and we have virtually nothing to show for it, except defense contractors bloated by that taxpayer money. Buckle up folks, it's beginning to look like we are about to get into a new nuclear arms race.

    Russian media appeared to threaten Europe and the world by saying that a new nuclear torpedo could create towering tsunami waves and destroy vast swaths of Earth’s population.

  • A Russian professor told a Russian paper that the new torpedo could create waves 1,300 to 1,600 feet high and wipe out all life nearly 1,000 miles inland with an alleged 200-megaton nuclear warhead.
  • The US has no defenses against such a weapon.
  • Russia and its media often overstate the capability and meaning of their nuclear weapons, but Russia really did build this new nuclear weapon, which suggests they take the hype seriously.

Russian media appeared to threaten Europe and the world with an article in MK.ru, saying that a new nuclear torpedo could create towering tsunami waves and destroy vast swaths of Earth’s population.

Russia’s “Poseidon” nuclear torpedo, which leaked in 2015 before being confirmed by Russian President Vladimir Putin in March 2018, represents a different kind of nuclear weapon.

    Seems to me that when we use the word thugs and oligarchs to describe Russian leadership…we should do the same here for our leadership both corporate and governmental.

    Regards the article… Regardless of whether Russia actually has a typhoon weapon or this is just an example of the sophisticated psychological warfare they are capable of, there are a few things left out of the article.

    1.) Any attack from such a device would be answered by massive retaliation. The radiation and other effects on Russia, particularly as result of a European attack are not calculated.
    2.) Even a very limited nuclear war, for instance one equal to what Pakistan and India could do, would virtually end all life on the planet through the effects of nuclear winter. Retaliation by the USA would likely be 100’s of times larger.
    3.) No known battleplan for USA nuclear first strike or retalitory strike has ever excluded civilian population centers in Russia and China. As much of our warmaking infrastructure is near cities it is unlikely that the Russian nuclear targeting excludes them.

    It is also important to point out that this supposed Typhoon weapon is not just potentially a first strike weapon but also a retalitory weapon that could be part of russia’s deadman switch concept of automatically unleashing pure hell on earth if attacked first.
