House Democrats passed expansive legislation Friday aimed at increasing ballot access, including making Election Day a federal holiday, as well provisions for publicly financing elections and requiring presidents to release their tax returns.
The bill, known as HR 1, passed by a vote of 234-193 Friday. It has been a top priority for Democrats since the party took back the House in November, following an election marked in large part by voting rights issues, including Stacey Abrams’ refusal to concede in the Georgia gubernatorial election and the passage of Amendment 4 in Florida, which re-enfranchised 1.4 million formerly incarcerated people.

The idea that democracy gives rights to the common man is laughable. Democracy only enables the mob, at the expense of the individual.
This is why the United States was created as a Republic, and not as a Democracy. This is why the United States has become the greatest nation in the history of the Earth, and why the United States has brought freedom and prosperity to more people, both in and outside it’s borders than in any time in human history.
Okay, Charles I’m left wondering how the US is different from other successful democracies. All have representative governance many follow the UK model and others some variation of our system minus the Electoral College thing. So I’m unclear on your point that being a republic has made “the greatest nation in the history of the Earth” and protected against mob rule of the common man. Who in any of the “democracies” has been voting but the common man?
Except the last 2 GOP Presidents stole the presidency solely based on the electoral college which denied the candidate who received the largest vote count. So you are correct: the US is a republic, however your political system is designed precisely against the individual and was designed to keep the wealthy landowners in power.
