Trump Has Now Shifted $1.3 Million Of Campaign-Donor Money Into His Business

Stephan:  One thing you can say about Donald Trump is that in all situations large and small he unashamedly puts the grift and personal enrichment first.

Donald Trump has charged his own reelection campaign $1.3 million for rent, food, lodging and other expenses since taking office, according to a Forbes analysis of the latest campaign filings. And although outsiders have contributed more than $50 million to the campaign, the billionaire president hasn’t handed over any of his own cash. The net effect: $1.3 million of donor money has turned into $1.3 million of Trump money.

In December, Forbes reported on the first $1.1 million that President Trump moved from his campaign into his business. Since then, his campaign filed additional documentation showing that it spent another $180,000 at Trump-owned properties in the final three months of 2018.

None of this seemed likely when Donald Trump first got into politics. “I don’t need anybody’s money,” he announced on the day he launched his 2016 campaign, standing inside the marble atrium at Trump Tower. “I’m using my […]

Humanity ‘Sleepwalking Towards the Edge of a Cliff’: 60% of Earth’s Wildlife Wiped Out Since 1970

Stephan:  I have been covering the ongoing sixth extinction for several years; amazed that this trend gets almost no coverage in the general media. The day of reckoning is coming.

Scientists from around the world issued a stark warning to humanity Tuesday in a semi-annual report on the Earth’s declining biodiversity, which shows that about 60 percent of mammals, birds, fish and reptiles have been wiped out by human activity since 1970.

The World Wildlife Fund’s Living Planet Index details how human’s uncontrolled overconsumption of land, food and natural resources has eliminated a majority of the wildlife on the planet—threatening human civilization as well as the world’s animals.

“We are sleepwalking towards the edge of a cliff,” Mike Barrett, executive director of science and conservation at WWF, told the Guardian. “If there was a 60 percent decline in the human population, that would be equivalent to emptying North America, South America, Africa, Europe, China and Oceania. That is the scale of what we have done.”

How soon will climate change force you to move?

Stephan:  This is old news to SR readers, but important nonetheless because it shows that the issue of mass displacement of populations within U.S. borders is now being recognized in the mainstream culture, although the Republican Party and its thug-in-chief continue to claim climate change is some kind of hoax.

Early in the morning of November 8 in Paradise, California, Mark Mesku got a call from his daughter. “She said, ‘Dad, you got to get out. The whole town’s on fire.’” Mesku looked outside, saw the sky filled with smoke, and shouted for his wife. After grabbing a few belongings, they got in their cars. “Three hours of pure darkness is what it took us to get out from our home,” he says. “The sky was pure black, except for the trees and cars that were burning up and exploding right next to us.” When they got to the main road–the only route out of Paradise–the other cars wouldn’t let them merge into traffic. Mesku had to force his truck onto the road, and let his wife merge in front. They later learned that cars behind them on the side road had burned.

WATCH: NRA execs busted giving tips to far-right nationalists on how to exploit gun massacres

Stephan:  This is so morally disgusting and so typical of the NRA, which I consider one of the evil entities degrading American society. Click on the video.

In a secretly recorded video captured by Al Jazeera, executives for the National Rifle Association (NRA) can be seen coaching members of the anti-immigration One Nation party of Australia how to attack gun control activists following shootings.

In the video, which can be seen below, media inquiries about gun control persist, NRA communications official, Lars Dalseide, advised members of the group to “shame them to the whole idea,” when fighting back against anyone advocating for sensible gun laws.

“If your policy, isn’t good enough to stand on itself, how dare you use their deaths to push that forward? How dare you stand on the graves of those children to put forward your political agenda?” the activsists are advised.

Another NRA employee, Catherine Mortensen, also offered advice on how to handle media inquiries after a mass shooting by simply stating “Ignore them.”

Stephan:  Thanks to White racist Republicans democracy is a very iffy business in Georgia. Here is the latest on the state and its voting issues, which seems to be more of the same.

WASHINGTON — The state has missed the deadline to submit documents related to a federal inquiry into Georgia’s elections system and alleged voter suppression during the contentious 2018 governor’s race, 11Alive has confirmed.

Earlier this month, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Maryland) sent letters to both Brian Kemp and Brad Raffensperger, requesting a laundry list of documents related to reports of voting problems be submitted by March 20. That didn’t happen according to a spokesperson for the US House Committee on Oversight and Reform.

“We have not yet received the documents we requested on alleged voter suppression in Georgia,” a statement from the committee said. “However, representatives of Georgia’s Governor, the Governor’s Office, and the Secretary of State’s Office have committed to fully cooperating with our inquiry in a timely way, and we expect them to abide by that commitment.”

Kemp, the current governor of Georgia, was overseeing the tight gubernatorial race as Secretary of State at the same time he was running against Democratic challenger […]
