Trump-linked Christian fundamentalists are pouring dark money into Europe, boosting the far right

Stephan:  While most of America is looking the other way, the christofascists are doing this. We are a country in such steep decline it is hard to keep track of what is happening.

According to a new analysis released by openDemocracy, Christian-right fundamentalists linked to the Trump administration and Steve Bannon are among a dozen American groups that have poured at least $50 million of dark money into Europe over the last decade.

Between them, these groups have backed armies of ultra-conservative lawyers and political activists, as well as so-called family values campaigns against LGBTQ rights, sex education and abortion—and a number appear to have increasing links with Europe’s far right.

They are spending money on a scale “not previously imagined,” according to lawmakers and human rights advocates, who have called openDemocracy’s findings “shocking.”

Among the biggest spenders is a group whose chief counsel is also Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Jay Sekulow. Another organization has collaborated with a controversial Rome-based institute backed by Steve Bannon.

None of these American groups discloses who its donors are—though at least two have links to famous conservative billionaires, such as the Koch brothers (who helped bankroll the Tea Party movement) and the family of Trump’s education secretary, Betsy DeVos.

With Facebook Ban On White Extremism, International Norms Apply To U.S.

Stephan:  America has become the principal exporter and legitimizer of White racism, led by America's president, a man unlike any person who has ever previously held the office. It has gotten so bad that other nations have pressured Facebook to ban America's racist intellectual sewage. Here's the story.

The U.S. has long exported its culture abroad — think Coca-Cola, Hollywood and hip-hop. Facebook was once praised for spreading free-speech values. But the world is pushing back with different values, which Facebook is importing to the U.S. with the company’s ban on white extremist content.

The ban goes into effect worldwide this week. Experts and advocates who’ve long lobbied Facebook to pull potentially dangerous speech say the move — which is wrapped up in the U.S. culture wars — is the result of international pressure forcing the company’s hand.

A Facebook spokesperson says that under the new rules, users can’t post in a celebratory way on its News Feed or Instagram: “I’m a white nationalist!” But they can post: “I’m a black nationalist!”

John Spier, a Facebook user in Central California, says that’s “ridiculous.” Spier, a self-described libertarian, says everyone should have […]

How Far-Right Extremists Abroad Have Adopted Trump’s Symbols As Their Own

Stephan:  The MAGA red hat is the symbol of the American brownshirt, and it is going international. This is what America is coming to be known for. How do you feel about that?

Alexandre Bissonnette obsessively searched for Donald Trump on social media and posed with a MAGA hat in the months before he killed six Muslim men at a mosque in Quebec City.

Alexandre Bissonette wore the hat.

A Canadian, Bissonette hadn’t voted for Donald Trump. He lived in a French-speaking province, far from the U.S. president’s campaign rallies and “America first” appeals. But some of the first photos to emerge of the 27-year-old after he stormed a Quebec City mosque and killed six Muslim men in January 2017 showed him wide-eyed with a slight smirk and a red “Make America Great Again” cap casting a shadow over his pallid face.

“Make America Great Again” has become more than a U.S. political slogan. For Bissonette and other white nationalist, radical right and anti-immigrant extremists all over the world, it’s a symbol; a kind of political messaging […]

5G: The Big Picture

Stephan:  I am not altogether clear about 5G, but I am clear that having your body constantly bombarded by electromagnetic radiation cannot be a good thing. I have been searching for weeks for a comprehensive article on this issue, since greed seems to be making 5G a part of our future. This is the best one I have found; it does not make me happy.

5G From Space

In November of 2018, the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) authorised the rocket company SpaceX, owned by the entrepreneur Elon Musk, to launch a fleet of 7,518 satellites to complete SpaceX’s ambitious scheme to provide global satellite broadband services to every corner of the Earth.

The satellites will operate at a height of approximately 210 miles, and irradiate the Earth with extremely high frequencies between 37.5 GHz and 42 GHz. This fleet will be in addition to a smaller SpaceX fleet of 4,425 satellites, already authorised earlier in the year by the FCC, which will orbit the Earth at a height of approximately 750 miles and is set to bathe us in frequencies between 12 GHz and 30 GHz. The grand total of SpaceX satellites is thus projected to reach just under 12,000.

There are at present approximately two thousand fully functioning satellites orbiting the Earth. Some beam down commercial GPS (or “SatNav”), some provide TV, some provide mobile phone services, and some bounce radar back […]

The IRS tried to go after the ultra-rich with ‘audits from hell’ — until Congress stepped in to protect the wealthy

Stephan:  If you ever had any doubt that the United States has become a Neo-feudalist oligarchy, in which the rich live in the different world than the rest of the population this article will help dispel your confusion. I for one am disgusted by this reality; it is exactly what the Founders did not want, and I am appalled at how docile most Americans are about what we have become.

Steven Mnuchin

On June 30, 2016, an auto-parts magnate received the kind of news anyone would dread: The Internal Revenue Service had determined he had engaged in abusive tax maneuvers. He stood accused of masking about $5 billion in income. The IRS wanted over $1.2 billion in back taxes and penalties.

The magnate, Georg Schaeffler, was the billionaire scion of a family-owned German manufacturer and was quietly working as a corporate lawyer in Dallas. Schaeffler had extra reason to fear the IRS, it seemed. He wasn’t in the sights of just any division of the agency but the equivalent of its SEAL Team 6.

In 2009, the IRS had formed a crack team of specialists to unravel the tax dodges of the ultrawealthy. In an age of widening inequality, with a concentration of wealth not seen since the Gilded Age, the rich were evading taxes through ever more sophisticated maneuvers. The IRS commissioner aimed to stanch the country’s losses with what he proclaimed would be “a game-changing strategy.” In short order, Charles Rettig, […]
