The U.S. is “still in pandemic mode” with new COVID-19 infections some 16 times higher than what’s needed to end the public health crisis, according to Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said in an interview with Axios published Thursday that “the endgame is to suppress the virus.” But 160,000 new cases of the coronavirus per day is “not even modestly good control,” he declared.
“In a country of our size, you can’t be hanging around and having 100,000 infections a day,” Fauci explained. “You’ve got to get well below 10,000 before you start feeling comfortable.”
Last month, Fauci said the spread of the highly transmissible delta variant — responsible for a surge in infections, especially among unvaccinated people — could be largely contained by the spring of 2022 if an “overwhelming majority” receive the shot.

People in the United States do have certain rights. But they certainly don’t have the right to make others sick.
If someone doesn’t want to wear a mask or get vaccinated, amidst a pandemic that is infecting 100,000 people a day,,, Stay home! Home school your children! Have you groceries delivered! Consider someone other than yourself!
But the problem is, these are the same people who believe, that scientifically proven Global Warming is a “hoax” (as Trump was quoted saying.)
Vaccine mandates can’t come soon enough.
It has clearly been shown that vaccinated individuals can spread the virus as easily the unvaccinated can. Stop blaming the unvaccinated for the spread of the virus. Viruses simply spread.
Michael —
Your thinking is very distorted. You carefully select a few facts and then misunderstand and misrepresent them. If you don’t want to get vaccinated, no problem, just don’t threaten the wellbeing of others. Stay home, home school your kids, order in things you need like groceries. Isolate yourself. People like you are the reason we see the kind of daily infection rates, and death rates we do from Covid.
COVID-19 is not a Republican or political virus, it is simply a virus. There are many who are exposed to the virus and develop natural immunity, a well established fact that has been documented in multiple academic studies but is completely ignored by the CDC. Most “cases” are asymptomatic or only mildly symptomatic, a fact rarely reported by the media and the CDC. So reporting the number of cases is reporting a meaningless number. The fact is that the overwhelming majority of those who become seriously ill from the virus are obese and chronically ill, and it is this group people who need the vaccine. That said, the vaccine does NOT stop the spread of the virus. There are a large number of people who continue to”test positive” and spread the virus despite being vaccinated. So please stop making this a political issue. Neither Democrats no Republicans are to blame!
Your statement is factually inaccurate. There is a strong correlation between political affiliation and contracting or dying from Coivd (See SR archive).
Don’t kid yourselves. With our illness profit system we were never going to vaccinate everyone in this county, let alone the millions in the third world who will continue to incubate the disease. Unless we adopt the New Zealand strategy and close our borders individuals with new variants will enter the population. This will be a chronic disease to manage for many years.
