Stephan: Pew Research has just published a very interesting report on changes in gender equality in the U.S.. I think this is good news because it shows that a growing percentage of the American population, and both small businesses and large corporations, are changing their attitude on this subject, even in the metropolitan areas of Red states.
Women in the United States continue to earn less than men, on average. Among full-time, year-round workers in 2019, women’s median annual earnings were 82% those of men.
The gender wage gap is narrower among younger workers nationally, and the gap varies across geographical areas. In fact, in 22 of 250 U.S. metropolitan areas, women under the age of 30 earn the same amount as or more than their male counterparts, according to a new Pew Research Center analysis of Census Bureau data.
The New York, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles metropolitan areas are among the cities where young women are earning the most relative to young men. In both the New York and Washington metro areas, young women earn 102% of what young men earn when examining median annual earnings among full-time, year-round workers. In the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim metro area, the median earnings for women and men in this age group were identical in 2019. (For data on earnings and the gender gap for 250 U.S. metropolitan areas, read this Google sheet.)
Stephan: Because, with occasional exceptions, few and far between, humans have never considered technologies from the perspective of their impact on the wellbeing of life, like oil, and nuclear, the wellbeing impact of plastics has not been on most governments' radar. That is now changing but very slowly, probably too slowly. And the implications are dire. Here is an example of what I mean.
Yet what if, on top of all these things, there is an even more dystopian crisis in the offing — one in which humans are no longer able to reproduce without artificial help because we have filled the environment with chemicals that have altered our bodies?
Scientists believe this is not only possible, it is likely to happen within our lifetimes.
Understanding why involves three statistics: First, that a human male who has fewer than […]
Stephan: Russian state television, the official voice of the Putin government, makes it about as clear as one could. No mincing words here.
Former President Donald Trump continues to be praised on Russian state television almost as much as he’s regaled on Fox News, with state media now calling for regime change in the United States.
Daily Beast columnist Julia Davis has been monitoring Russian state TV to report on how the invasion is being portrayed by the Kremlin.
“Putin’s invasion of Ukraine pitted Russia against most of the world, leaving Kremlin propagandists yearning for any tidbits of pro-Russian sentiment in the United States. These days, state television draws on a bounty of translated quotes almost exclusively from two Western voices: Tucker Carlson of Fox News and former U.S. President Donald J. Trump,” Davis reported Tuesday.
She also reported that a Russian TV host was calling for regime change in America to return Donald Trump to power, even though Kamala Harris is next in line, followed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and then Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT).
“It is time for us, for our people, to call on the people of the United States to change the regime in the […]
Stephan: Considering also the previous story, can the collaboration and shared common interests be made any clearer.
Former President Donald Trump called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to release dirt on President Joe Biden amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
In an interview with Just the News founder John Solomon published on Tuesday, Trump reiterated his unproven claim that Yelena Baturina, a Russian oligarch and the wife of former Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov, gave $3.5 million to a business that Hunter Biden, a son of Joe Biden, helped found.
“She gave him $3.5 million so now I would think Putin would know the answer to that,” said Trump. “I think he should release it. I think we should know that answer.”
“How is it that the mayor of Moscow, his wife gave the Biden family three and a half million dollars?” he added. “I think Putin now would be willing to probably give that answer. I’m sure he knows.”
This is not the first time Trump has called on Russia to release damaging information on a political rival. While running for president in 2016, Trump called on Moscow to release the hacked emails of then-Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Stephan: Trump's criminality just keeps piling up as millions of MAGAts look the other way. And where is Merritt Garland and the DOJ? He and it are so different from the DOJ of the Nixon era. Increasingly Americans question the obvious corruption that pervades the American government because no one close to Trump is ever held accountable.
Internal White House records from the day of the attack on the U.S. Capitol that were turned over to the House select committee show a gap in President Donald Trump’s phone logs of seven hours and 37 minutes, including the period when the building was being violently assaulted, according to documents obtained by The Washington Post and CBS News.
The lack of an official White House notation of any calls placed to or by Trump for 457 minutes on Jan. 6, 2021 — from 11:17 a.m. to 6:54 p.m. — means the committee has no record of his phone conversations as his supporters descended on the Capitol, battled overwhelmed police and forcibly entered the building, prompting lawmakers and Vice President Mike Pence to flee for safety.
The 11 pages of records, which consist of the president’s official daily diary and the White House switchboard call logs, were turned over by the National Archives earlier this year to the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack.
The records show that Trump was active on the phone for […]
