Stephan: It is hard for me to tell you how loathsome I find people like Jim Jordan, David Yost, Mike DeWine, and a host of other Republicans. These people put their own advancement and their own power above decency, American democracy, or any concern for girls who are raped. You have probably heard the story of the 10-year-old girl -- actually, she was impegnated when she was raped at 9 years of age. How she had to be taken to Indiana because Ohio had no exceptions for rape or incest, and Indiana's had not kicked in yet. You may also know about how the Republicans tried to turn this story into a political fairytale, something made up by the pro-choice world when, as has now been proven, it is disgustingly true, and here is the truth. What kind of person thinks the best course of action for a pregnant 10-year-old is to carry a child to delivery. And then what?

The first and most important thing to recognize right now is that a heinous, violent crime was committed on a 10-year-old Ohio child, and thankfully justice has now found the alleged perpetrator.
A Columbus man was indicted Wednesday in a case that made national and international headlines about a 10-year-old girl who had to travel to Indiana for an abortion after Ohio’s abortion ban went into effect following the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade.
The story is horrifying and tragic. She has experienced enormous trauma. My heart breaks for her, and I’m very grateful to all the hard-working professionals out there providing her and her family assistance in what must be a truly awful time.
