Countries around the world are failing to live up to their commitments to fight climate change, pointing Earth toward a future marked by more intense flooding, wildfires, drought, heat waves and species extinction, according to a report issued Wednesday by the United Nations.
Just 26 of 193 countries that agreed last year to step up their climate actions have followed through with more ambitious plans. The world’s top two polluters, China and the United States, have taken some action but have not pledged more this year, and climate negotiations between the two have been frozen for months.
Without drastic reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, the report said, the planet is on track to warm by an average of 2.1 to 2.9 degrees Celsius, compared with preindustrial levels, by 2100.

Fearing further stress on supply chains and the economy ahead of the midterm elections, President Joe Biden convened an emergency board to negotiate a tentative agreement between rail carriers and unions threatening a nationwide strike. LOS ANGELES — Researchers at City of Hope, one of the largest integrated cancer research and care centers, say the first patient has received a new cancer-stopping pill and is healthy and well.
The pill, AOH1996, was named after young cancer victim Anna Olivia Healey, who was born in 1996. For 20 years now, Linda Malkas, Ph.D., professor in City of Hope’s Department of Molecular Diagnostics & Experimental Therapeutics, has dedicated her research and development efforts to AOH1996.
In trials, the pill has been effective at targeting the proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), which has a crucial role in cell repair and replications. Using mutated cells as a target in this way has not only been shown to halt growth of cancerous human cells and inhibit spread, but its mechanism of action doesn’t confer any toxic effects to normal, healthy cells.

Stephan: Here is yet another Herschel Walker cover-up and lies. I find it hard to believe that any rational person would vote for this creepy liar and cheat, but I suspect millions will. That isn't, however, the reason I am running this story. What I am noticing in story after story around the country is that Republican candidates, and I mean all of them, are liars, cheats, and frauds, if not outright crooks. They have no positive policies to foster the wellbeing of ordinary Americans, they are only against things, anything the Democrats are trying to do. It seems so obvious that they offer nothing positive that you would think no one would vote for such people to represent them. But I am quite cynical about the American public, and believe millions will vote to degrade the wellbeing of their own lives.

According to new claims, Herschel Walker drove a woman with whom he was having a romantic relationship to an abortion clinic.
In a press release, Attorney Gloria Allred said that she would hold a Wednesday press conference with the woman, who was identified as “Jane Doe.”
“A new woman (Jane Doe) will speak today, October 26, 2022, at a press conference with her attorney, Gloria Allred, to allege that she had a romantic, intimate relationship with Herschel Walker and that he drove her to an abortion clinic to have an abortion after she became pregnant as a result of her relationship with him,” the press release said.
Allred said that “evidence in support of her romance with Mr. Walker will be revealed at the press conference.”
The event was scheduled for 2:30 pm ET on Wednesday.
