Stephan: Red state voter suppression has always been a problem but, since the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act it has been getting worse. Maricopa County: was it just the incompetence of the woman who oversees voting in Maricopa, or was there a deep motive? Hard to say, at this stage, but this is obviously a serious problem in those states. And then there are the issues critics have raised about the security of computerized voting. This article describes the situation.
It is impossible to have a properly functioning democracy if voting is not a closely supervised and protected activity freely available to all citizens. The only thing that will assure that, however, is the passionate demand by citizens that it be so.

It is my considered opinion that, as far as the simple process of voting goes, the World’s Last Great Democracy couldn’t organize a two-car funeral if you spotted it the hearse.
