Some years ago a friend and I visited the magnificent country in Southern Utah one Spring. Colleges were still having their classes, and we thought the campgrounds would be easy to stay in. Hardly. Every campground was filled with Germans. A Navajo hogan-store had a sign saying “Wir sprechen deutsch.” One largish restaurant near Bryce Canyon was filled with Germans and Japanese- mostly Germans. The two of us plus the staff seemed to be the only English speakers.
