Stretch out your hand. Ever wonder what it’s made of? The skin masks flesh, blood and bone sure enough. But those tissues are made of molecules, which are made of atoms. And atoms are made of electrons, protons and neutrons. It’s only when we drill down to fundamental particles and energy that we reach bedrock.
Or do we? The history of physics certainly gives us pause. For more than 300 years we have been asking ourselves about the true nature of reality–what, ultimately, stuff is made of. Time and again, we have found another layer beneath what we thought was the lowest. What’s more, with each new depth we plumb, our old understanding of reality is swept aside.
Now we could be on the cusp of another revolution, thanks to efforts to reconcile our two most successful but incompatible theories of reality. Not particles, energy, space, time or anything else we might think of as fundamental truly is: instead, the essence of reality is a thing whose workings we’re only just […]
I could not get the whole article without subscribing to the magazine.
Stephan, I am ashamed of you! You lead us to an article that sounds very interesting but we cannot read it unless we subscribe to New Scientist. I don’t have any extra money to throw around right now, so I cannot afford to subscribe to this periodical, and I cannot read the article.
However I will submit that as far as the material aspect of reality I believe the same as you do, that consciousness creates reality, but the basic form of reality is electrical in nature, in the form of plasma which is all through the Universe, and dark matter does not exist, black holes do not exist, and the big bang never happened.
I adhere to the teachings of Amit Goswami as well as the Maharishi Yogi in this respect: that there is a cosmic consciousness which creates reality in all it’s forms, no matter how we break it down. That cosmic consciousness is what all the religious teachers and preachers have found when they have meditated upon this subject. As Bernado Kastrup puts it “Materialism is Baloney”. All consciousness is connected and universal and it is through this consciousness that plasma is used to create the Universe of material that we perceive.
My Motto:
Ignorance is it’s own punishment
Wisdom is it’s own reward
and Meditation is the key to Wisdom
Rev. Dean has it right I fully agree with him,
I was just going to make the connection to Bernardo Kastrup’s work! I just finished his work “More Than Allegory” and it really brought many things together in my mind. It further crystallized my sense that consciousness is primary and the primary nature of the universe is mental. Highly recommend his body of work! And Rev. Dean, thank you for the motto, I may just have to adopt it if you would be so kind as to share it.
I would very much have liked to have read the article but will not subscribe to New Scientist just to read this one article…there are others you have posted in the past that were the same but I never left a comment about not being able to read them without subscribing. I agree with Rev. Dean’s comment above,
When you post an article, please let us know that it is on a restricted source. This one, for example, requires a $21.99 subscription to continue reading.
People, why admonish Mr. Schwartz? He does all this digging for wonderful insights and information every day. Every day! All you have to do is open the email and browse his links and choose what you find interesting. You should be thanking him. And if a subject interests you and you don’t want to pay the subscription, dig for yourself. Search “consciousness primary” and you will find much great info. Bernardo Kastrup is a brilliant scientist who comes from a background in particle physics and write on the subject of consciousness as being the primary soup of the universe and he writes for the layman like me. Dig deep my friends.
