Stephan:   The damage that "Dear Leader" Trump has done to American democracy may permanently change the country. The good news is that there is a growing awareness, previously absent, that this is going on. Here is the editorial position of the Los Angeles Times to make my point.

When Democrats won control of the House of Representatives in last November’s blue wave, it seemed as if Congress might finally start performing oversight of the Trump administration after two years of see-no-evil Republican leadership. This week, however, the administration all but declared itself immune to such scrutiny.

Asked Thursday about a subpoena issued by the House Judiciary Committee for former White House Counsel Don McGahn, President Trump said, “We’re fighting all the subpoenas. Look, these aren’t like impartial people. The Democrats are trying to win 2020. … The only way they can luck out is by constantly going after me on nonsense.”

That’s an outrageous and indefensible position. Congress has a fundamental constitutional role to play overseeing the executive branch; the president cannot simply announce that he will not be overseen, that his administration will not obey […]

    On and on it goes trump, trump, f’ing trump. I now pray to live long enough to go for a day, a week, longer please without hearing, seeing the name trump! Our proto-Mussolini is insane but cunning. The only saving grace is his inability to shut-up causing him most of his difficulties.

    Yet if he disappeared today the madness would not end as there is much wrong in our country that is calling forth the best and the worst. The wheel of karma turns and brings back to us what we put out, what goes around comes around. Little has been said of the arrogance of my country that has believed and acted as it we know what and how others should live. If you don’t submit then we invade, sanction, bomb, drone you into submission so as to bring freedom, free markets and the wonders of the democratic system that we Americans enjoy. We are no more “exceptional” than other empire seeking power, wealth and control over others. Like all past empires the rot and arrogance create the eventual downfall/contraction, ask the Russians, Chinese, or the Brits. Of course we are the good guys even so none escape karma.

    Had a thought about the Mueller report. What if the level of corruption was so bad, so corrosive to the American society that for the safety of the entire political process they had to tone-it-down.
