No one on Capitol Hill has yet seen the potentially explosive complaint involving President Trump that an anonymous whistleblower is trying to show lawmakers.
But in the span of less than 48 hours, it’s become the focal point of House Democrats’ ongoing impeachment drama—with some pro-impeachment lawmakers casting it as a do-or-die moment for holding Trump accountable and, more glaringly, protecting constitutional bedrocks.
“If any of these allegations are true, these are probably the most serious allegations against the president,” said Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), an impeachment supporter. “I do think this is going to probably move more of the members to start calling for that [impeachment] hearing… My guess is, those numbers are going to continue to go up.”
Several reports have indicated that the whistleblower’s complaint focuses on a call that Trump had in July with the newly elected Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, in which Trump urged him to investigate the business dealings of Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, in the country. Trump […]
Are we talking about long-time (25 year) CIA person Sue Gordon? And the story that has now changed to “she didn’t have first hand knowledge …”? George Webb addresses this well in https://youtu.be/jjCVnok1Qvk
What’s the point at this late date? As the old adage says, “A day late and a dollar short.” The voters will have an opportunity to “impeach” him next year. Pelosi has demonstrated in the past that she had no respect for the constitution so why would anyone expect her to invoke it now to protect what’s left of the American Republic after over a century of abuse by both Republicans and Democrats.
I can’t imagine being in Pelosi’s place. I wasn’t happy when she became the house leader, as she is caught in the politics of the past. When at first, the young progressives asked to meet with Pelosi about Climate, she refused. Turned them away. She’s been on the Hill for decades and feels entitled to be House Speaker. I wouldn’t have any problem with that if she was more open, more supportive of those who are coming up behind her. She could have been a good mentor. Helped them create and shape a future vision for the nation. That said, I sense why she may be holding out on impeaching the President. There are so many factors in place. It’s a hard call. How long will the proceedings take? What will the GOP Congress do? What happens when Pence who seems easily controlled takes on the role of President? Who will the GOP nominate to replace T. or will they push for Pence. So many ifs. Not to mention voters rights and protections. Pelosi surely knows more than the public. And altho I agree with AOC about the Dems ‘cowardice’…I also know enough about DC, have known insiders, heard the hair raising stories that panned out to be true…. It may well be impeachment is the necessary step, but in the meantime, more and more people are beginning to understand how duped they’ve been. It’s painful to read about, saddening to hear. And although there’s been a lot of fake news, I’m deeply grateful for the ongoing, intrepid journalists who do have integrity and have stayed in the game. For the younger generations who give me hope. Joe Kennedy, Jr. is running against Ed Markey, who supported AOC’s Green Deal. Joe told the press, ‘I respect Markey (who’s had close to 30 years in Congress) – ‘but we (the Dems) need young energy. Those who aren’t afraid to push harder for change.’ I say ‘bring it on’.. but I would like to see a mix of older and younger who have much to offer each other. And am disturbed when younger people tell me about the dismissive attitude they’ve experienced with elders. And had to laugh when some wag on the Internet said, there’s one thing that holds true.. Every generation believes they know everything..
And in the meantime, McConnell’s ratings in KY have dropped to 18%. He’s out – and will take home $12M +, mostly due to his Chinese wife’s father who is one of China’s most wealthy and influential citizens.
Thank you Sam for your wise words. I too seeing the complexity and difficult choices before us about which way to go. Being an old person I believe our generation needs to yield to the up and coming enthusiastic young who will have to deal with the degraded consumerist mess we have created for them.
I believe Trump should be impeached, but am not stupid and realize that impeachment would take a long time in the courts and might be diminishing from the up and coming election process.
