A majority of the justices on the Supreme Court may not see COVID-19 as an emergency. But they do see it as an opportunity. This unprecedented pandemic, the deadliest in American history, has forced the executive branch to act swiftly and creatively at each stage of the crisis. Facing an often-deadlocked Congress, President Joe Biden has drawn on old statutes to establish new regulations to stop the coronavirus from spreading and killing more people. Yet in so doing, he has given the Supreme Court’s Republican-appointed justices a chance to hobble his whole agenda. And during oral arguments over Biden’s vaccine mandates on Friday, these justices made it painfully clear that they will also seize this moment to grind down the federal government’s ability to perform even its most basic functions as well.
Friday’s arguments revolved around two rules issued by the Biden administration. The first, which we’ll call the employer mandate, was issued by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. It imposes a requirement […]
The management at my workplace are beyond stressed out. So many of the anti vax and mask employees are out sick with Covid. These are the same employees that came to work sick during a Covid pandemic, and refused to wear masks in a classroom, or even on a bus filled with vulnerable special needs children. Sadly, one of them got sick with Covid, and now her special needs son is in the hospital for over 3 weeks -with Covid. Not a coincidence at all that she, and the others out sick -are Republican Trump fans.
People do not have the right to get others sick in the workplace, who in turn bring it home to their families, during a pandemic that has claimed almost one million lives. Who will be held responsible for the vaccine disinformation and misinformation that is affecting us all?
Once again I agree with you, Lori. I truly believe Trump is the main problem! People believe things he says even if they go against the scientific viewpoint.
I expect that what the Justices will rule is that Congress needs to authorize Federal Agencies to have this power. The Justices will expect Congress to to their job…silly Justices.
