For the first time, the Biden administration is offering money to recently shuttered nuclear plants that want to come back to life.
The funding is part of the $6 billion Civil Nuclear Credit (CNC) Program offered to prevent the early closings of nuclear reactors as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The Department of Energy (DOE) published application guidelines for the program’s second award cycle on Thursday, arguing that nuclear energy is essential for President Joe Biden’s vision of a carbon-free electricity grid by 2035.
“President Biden’s $6 billion investment in the Civil Nuclear Credit Program made it abundantly clear that preserving the domestic nuclear fleet is critical to reaching America’s clean energy future,” U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm said in a statement announcing the current round of applications. “Expanding the scope of this Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding will allow even more nuclear facilities the opportunity to continue operating as economic drivers in […]
Unfortunately, I foresee with the coming drastic earth changes there will be danger with these plants and mitigation of the dangers will be difficult and many times unforseen..
It is reckless but we are in unusual times and the things Biden is doing are merely stopgap until EVs and other non-fossil fuels can be overcome with solar, wind, and EVs. We just had to be patient until technology catches up to our needs.
What the hell is wrong with Biden? Doesn’t he know about the new science on fusion reactors which would be a much better place to spend our money, rather than continuing to pump money into fission reactors which have TOO MUCH POLUTION to allow them to keep operating! We better teach him a lesson about the difference between the two VERY DIFFERENT styles of creating energy, and only one is clean as far as the environment is concerned.
Don’t listen to the sound bites, examine the behaviors. That’s what really matters. If you are disappointed in the behaviors, ask yourself: Why is this the best the current system can do?
