The Biden administration on Monday outlined new proposals to make it easier for Americans to cancel unwanted subscriptions.
Why it matters: The initiatives are a part of a broader effort by the administration to eliminate the “unnecessary headaches and hassles” that consumers face, including by getting rid of junk fees.
- “Americans know these practices well: it’s being forced to wait on hold just to get the refund we’re owed; the hoops and hurdles to cancel a gym membership or subscription; the unnecessary complications of dealing with health insurance companies; the requirements to do in-person or by mail what could easily be done with a couple of clicks online,” according to a White House fact sheet out Monday.

We are a culture which has become accustomed to massive levels of fraud, and this article discusses a small sliver of that process. The fact of the matter is that corporations have enriched themselves by cost shifting the burdens of doing business onto the population. This process should never be part of the financial transaction. It is imposed upon us by corporations who have been empowered by the courts, a lax bureaucracy, and to a great extent by wall street to engage in this behavior. After all a robot never asks for a raise, bathroom break, or complains about unsafe working conditions. The articles indicates that the Biden administration is seeking to expand these regulations to communications, healthcare, and other industries. It can’t happen soon enough. The cost of doing business should be borne by the business not cost shifted onto the consumer. Let’s see if the corrupt Judiciary will allow this to happen.
After reading the article above, and commenting, I ran across the following which illustrates clearly the effects of this corporate cost shifting onto other business ( a topic not discussed in the above article) and real people whose lives are negatively impacted in order to enrich the corporate managerial elite.
