IF YOU ENJOY SR AND FIND IT USEFUL WOULD YOU PLEASE DONATE

When I began Schwartzreport my purpose was to produce an entirely fact-based daily publication in favor of the earth, the inter-connectedness and interdependence of all life, democracy, equality for all, liberty, and things that are life-affirming. Also, to warn my readers about actions, events, and trends that threaten those values. Our country now stands at a crossroads, indeed, the world stands at a crossroads where those values are very much at risk and it is up to each of us who care about wellbeing to do what we can to defend those principles. I want to thank all of you who have contributed to SR, particularly those of you who have scheduled an ongoing monthly contribution. It makes a big difference and is much appreciated. It is one thing to put in the hours each day and to do the work for free, but another to have to cover the rising out-of-pocket costs. For those of you who haven’t done so, but read SR regularly, I ask that you consider supporting it.

Trump Backs House GOP Bill Slashing $1 Trillion From Medicaid and Food Stamps

Stephan:

I was just told today by the office of one of my physicians that telemedicine, doing a video meeting with a physician, will no longer be covered by Medicare. That, for me, is a big deal. I live on an island and going to a medical appointment on the mainland when all that is involved is a conversation, is an all-day operation for a 20-minute meeting that could have been done on ZOOM or an app like that. It is going to be a big deal for millions of other Americans as well; those who live in a rural area and your specialist is 50 miles away in a town or city. But this is just the beginning of the degrading of American healthcare, and childcare so the Republicans can further cut the already absurdly low taxes of the uber-rich.

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump endorsed a House Republican budget plan that would impose hundreds of millions of dollars in cuts to Medicaid, a healthcare program jointly funded by federal and state money, which helps provide coverage for Americans with lower incomes, including pregnant women, children and people with disabilities, among others..

Trump endorsed the plan over another Senate proposal, which sought to pass much of his legislative agenda through two separate bills. Trump, who had previously said either plan was fine with him, said in a Truth Social post on Wednesday that the House plan was better, in his mind, because it puts most everything he wants into “one big beautiful bill.”

“[T]he House Resolution implements my FULL America First Agenda, EVERYTHING, not just parts of it!” Trump wrote in his post.

The bill Trump has endorsed would make over $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program […]

Trump Executive Order Would Defund Schools That Require Covid Vaccines

Stephan:

Texas is experiencing the first measles outbreak in something like 50 years. Most pediatricians have never seen multiple cases of measles. And why is it happening? Because anti-vaxxer parents did not get their kids vaccinated for measles and mumps. If one actually reads the medical research on vaccines, it is very clear that you want your children to get them. “king” Trump doesn’t seem to be capable of understanding that and has appointed an anti-vaxxer, Robert Kennedy, Jr. to oversee healthcare in the United States. Now, through Executive Order, he is defunding federal aid to schools that require Covid vaccination. Because Trump is not smart enough to understand science he is defunding all levels of science where he and his Goebbels, Elon Musk, can do it by fiat. They are degrading American science and social wellbeing as fast as they can.

Amid fears of what U.S. President Donald Trump’s second term will mean for global health and public education, the Republican on Friday signed an executive order to defund schools that require Covid-19 vaccination for students.

Trump’s order bars federal funding “from being used to support or subsidize an educational service agency, state education agency, local education agency, elementary school, secondary school, or institution of higher education that requires students to have received a Covid-19 vaccination to attend in-person education programs,” according to a White House fact sheet.

The order, first reported by Breitbart News, also directs the secretaries of education and health and human services (HHS) to develop a plan “to end coercive Covid-19 vaccine mandates, including a report on noncompliant entities and a process for preventing federal funds from supporting educational entities that […]

Here Are All of Trump’s Major Moves to Dismantle Climate Action

Stephan:

Every climate research paper I see in any journal screams out a warning of what is coming as a result of climate change and sea rise, or droughts, and how urgently important it is that we end the carbon energy era. “king” Trump is not smart enough or ethical enough to prepare the United States for what is coming.

The most accurate projective map I can find showing the submergence of coastal areas of North and Central America as the result
of climate change and sea rise.

During his first weeks in office, President Donald Trump implemented a slew of actions and executive orders that stand to have wide-reaching impacts on climate policies.

During Trump’s first term, the administration put climate on the back burner—rolling back more than 125 environmental rules and policies. When former-President Joe Biden took office, he led the U.S. forward on climate action, signing the Inflation Reduction Act, the largest federal climate change investment in American history.

Now, the Trump Administration stands to dismantle much of the momentum it has inherited—curbing progress to reduce fossil fuel emissions, the largest contributor to climate change, just as the world surpassed 1.5°C of warming in 2024—the hottest year on record.

Columbia University’s Sabin Center for Climate Change Law’s “Climate Backtracker,” has logged more than 45 efforts to scale back or eliminate federal climate mitigation and adaptation measures since the administration took office at the end of January—ranging from boosting fossil-fuel production […]

Trump administration shuts down national database documenting police misconduct

Stephan:

As part of his coup “king” Trump needs to be able to utilize the police for his deportation schemes and to suppress any demonstrations against his coup. So he has changed the laws in such a way that no documentation occurs of police misconduct. Here is a report of what he has done. It is getting very little media coverage but is going to have major national implications endangering the lives of thousands of men, women, and children. Just wait, you’ll see it happen.

The database was created so law enforcement agencies across the US would be aware of any misconducted charges against potential hires.

Donald Trump’s second presidential administration shut down a national database that tracked misconduct by federal police, a resource that policing reform advocates hailed as essential to prevent officers with misconduct records from being able to move undetected between agencies.

The National Law Enforcement Accountability Database (NLEAD), which stored police records documenting misconduct, is now unavailable, the Washington Post first reported.

The US justice department also confirmed the database’s elimination in a statement issued online.

“User agencies can no longer query or add data to the NLEAD,” the statement read. “The US Department of Justice is decommissioning the NLEAD in accordance with federal standards.”

A weblink that hosted the database is no longer active.

The police misconduct database, the first of its kind, was not publicly available. Law enforcement agencies could use the NLEAD to check if an officer applying for a law enforcement position had committed misconduct, such as excessive force.

Several experts celebrated the NLEAD […]

Trump admin to use military sites for immigrant detention, starting with Fort Bliss

Stephan:

In a further mirroring of Hitler’s takeover of German democracy and his creation of concentration camps, Trump’s takeover of American democracy is now planning to create American concentration camps at military bases both within the United States and outside the country at Guantanamo, Cuba. Tens of thousands of undocumented men, women, and child immigrants will be detained in these camps.

EL PASO, TEXAS — According to an article published by The New York Times, the Trump administration is advancing plans to detain undocumented immigrants at military sites across the United States.

In the article, The New York Times stated that this would significantly expand efforts to use wartime resources for mass deportations.

According to three officials familiar with the plan, a deportation hub is being developed at Fort Bliss, near El Paso, Texas, which could hold up to 10,000 undocumented immigrants during deportation proceedings.

According to the article, Fort Bliss is intended to serve as a model for additional detention facilities on military sites nationwide, from Utah to areas near Niagara Falls.

This would address a shortfall of space at Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities, the officials said in the article.

Officials spoke on condition of anonymity as the plan is still in its early stages and not finalized, according to The New York Times article.

The proposal would mean a major escalation in the militarization of immigration enforcement, aligning with President Trump’s campaign promise of mass […]

Trump orders justice department to fire all US attorneys appointed by Biden

Stephan:

The United States is no longer going to have a fair and legitimate legal system. The FBI has been corrupted into a personal internal army to pursue what “king” Trump wants pursued, and the lawyers of DOJ that are ethical men and women are resigning or, as this article describes, being fired. Like everything else Trump and his spineless Congressional Republican servants are doing this is straight out of Hitler’s playbook. Project 2025 was just an update. Hitler dismantled Germany’s democracy in 53 days. Trump is now in day 34.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Donald Trump has said that he has instructed the justice department to fire any remaining US attorneys installed by the previous administration, in an apparent move to stamp out political appointees of Joe Biden who might resist having Trump’s agenda guide prosecutorial decisions.

“I have instructed the termination of ALL remaining ‘Biden Era’ US Attorneys,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on Tuesday. “We must ‘clean house’ IMMEDIATELY, and restore confidence. America’s Golden Age must have a fair Justice System – THAT BEGINS TODAY!”

The dismissal of US attorneys after a change in administration is typical, although the Trump administration has been unusually aggressive in pushing for mass firings across the board as opposed to asking for their resignations shortly after the new president takes office.

It also comes as Trump’s attorney general, Pam Bondi, and acting deputy attorney general, Emil Bove, have moved to implement the administration’s political agenda at the justice department and their vision of the unitary executive theory, where the president directs all cabinet-level agencies.

In recent days, Bove, as the number two official overseeing day-to-day operations, pushed […]

Experienced workers, not just rookies, get cut as Trump slashes probationary employees

Stephan:

The support networks that fostered the wellbeing of the lives of Americans in every government organization from doctors at VA hospitals to maintenance personnel at National Parks have been severely damaged by criminal “king” Trump and his obedient Republican Congress members. It will take years to heal this damage if it ever does happen. And it is only day 34 in Trump’s destruction of American society.

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA — Warren Hill spent more than two decades working at the Lake Clark National Park and Preserve, which spans 4 million acres of coastline, forests, lakes and glaciers in Alaska.

Last summer, he was promoted to serve as maintenance supervisor, in addition to his roles as carpenter and mechanic. But because Hill was starting a new role, he was on probationary status when President Donald Trump ’s administration began firing thousands and thousands of federal workers who had less civil service protection.

“I’m furious,” he said. “I am just a few years away from retirement, not to mention all my benefits disappeared in a flash.”

Probationary employees are generally younger, with less than a year or two on the job. However, the classification can also apply to workers with much more experience who were placed on probation when they transferred between agencies or moved into a different position. Now many have been swept up in layoffs championed by Elon Musk, […]

Economist Warns That Elon Musk Is About to Cause a “Deep, Deep Recession”

Stephan:

I have been telling you since day one of criminal “king” Trump’s inauguration that based on my study of the economy if Trump and Elon Musk — his equivalent of Hermann Goring — followed the update of Hitler’s plan that destroyed Germany’s democracy — Project 2025 — it would drive the American economy into recession. I am not the only person who has reached this conclusion. Here is what  Jesse Rothstein, a University of California, Berkeley public policy professor who was the DOL’s chief economist at the start of the Obama administration is predicting, and he and I are far from the only people predicting this. As much as you can I would urge you to prepare your finances for what is coming.

A professor and former Department of Labor economist is warning that unelected White House advisor and multi-hyphenate billionaire Elon Musk is sending the United States headlong into a huge recession.

In a post on Bluesky, Jesse Rothstein, a University of California, Berkeley public policy professor who was the DOL’s chief economist at the start of the Obama administration, addressed the dire situation we could soon be facing.

“It seems almost unavoidable at this point,” Rothstein wrote, “that we are headed for a deep, deep recession.”

Between the hundreds of thousands of government jobs on the chopping block and the cancellations of countless federal contracts, the economist noted that upcoming employment reports are looking quite scary indeed.

“The March employment report (to be released April 4) seems certain to show bigger job losses than any month ever outside of a few in 2008-9 and 2020,” the professor wrote in his multi-post thread. “Add on to that enormous private market uncertainty — how could you hire in these […]
